This past May, after 5 years of dating, my boyfriend (now fiance!) and I became engaged. Unlike most brides I've known, I didn't even begin to think about planning our wedding until almost 3 months after the proposal. I was in graduate school and the last thing I had time for was planning our wedding. I'm sure I'm not the first soon-to-be-bride that has pulled the reins on planning immediately after the proposal, but did I ever feel like a black sheep when asked "how's planning coming along?!" only to reply with a simple "Uh, well... it's not..." Now with 100 pages of graphs, tables, statistics, sweat, and tears behind me, I have moved on to attempting to obtain a new Master. A Master of Wedding Planning! (At least that's the goal...)
So what is a frugalista? Google says: "A person who is fashionable while being thrifty." and "a person who lives a frugal lifestyle but stays fashionable and healthy by swapping clothes, buying secondhand, growing own produce, etc."
As a rule, I've always lived my life in this way. I've never purchased a $500 pair of shoes and I'm not about to begin now. The thought of spending astronomical amounts of money on a single day slightly makes my stomach turn. So I plan to execute this event in the same way as everything else...
Researching the best products for the best prices, scouring the internet for promotional codes for that extra 10% off, waiting until Black Friday for the best sales... In a nutshell, I'm determined to plan a fabulous, fairytale wedding, while remaining pocket (and ideally Earth) friendly.
Over the past 3-4 months, I have been scouring every resource I could get my paws on and along the way have been making decisions based on these resources. That's when I decided I should document them for anyone else out there, to maybe help them save some time (and money) too!
I'm not about to pretend I'm a professional blogger. I'm not going to spend hours a day proofing and editing these posts. I'm just like you -- I work 40+ hours a week and spend whatever free time I have researching and planning. I have a dog -- a beagle with one blue eye -- but she's more like a child than a dog. I love bright colored photos and black&whites -- anything timeless --- and the smell of fall leaves. I still make wishes by scattering dandelion seeds, and believe no bride should have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on her wedding for it to be the happiest (and most beautiful) day of her life.
Hopefully, this blog will save you some time, money, and sanity! :)
Happy planning!
